offers numerous indoor and outdoor activities but one of the
greatest pleasures of spending time here is exploring the unique,
interesting, and unusual features our city offers. Below are
points of interest you may see as you explore the city. Some
are privately owned, some are open to the public. Please respect
private property.
WORLD WAR II MEMORIAL
Located in Kent Circle just off Stacy Boulevard this memorial
pays homage to the men & women of Gloucester who served in
World War II.
UNITARIAN-UNIVERSALIST CHURCH
Located on Middle Street this is the oldest Universalist
Church in the United States. The tower is sometimes open
for tours, Contact the church for info.
THE PAINT FACTORY
This iconic building marks the entrance to the inner harbor.
For years it manufactured paint for maritime use. It
is now under private ownership.
MOTHER OF GRACE CLUB
Located on Washington Street the club is privately owned
and is the site of an annual festival held in September.
LANES COVE
This picturesque cove is located in Lanesville and is the site
of the popular, annual 4th of July bonfire.
SMITH'S COVE & ROCKY NECK
Rocky Neck Art Colony is the oldest art colony in America.
It is filled with shops, galleries, and clubs. Gloucester
Marine Railways is located at its tip.
GLOUCESTER FISHERMEN'S WIVES MEMORIAL
This statue located on Stacy Boulevrd near the Man at the
Wheel honors the women and children who wait for their
men to return from the sea.
GLOUCESTER'S CITY HALL
Stenciled on the walls of the tower of Gloucester's City Hall
are the names of 5000 fishermen lost at sea. You can visit
City Hall during working hours.
JOAN OF ARC
Sculpted by Anna Hyatt Huntington, this statue was presented
to Gloucester by the French government. It occupies an
island in front of the Legion Building.
BASS ROCKS COUNTRY CLUB
This beautiful golf course and country club overlooks the ocean
and back shore. It is privately owned.
JODREY FISH PIER
Jodrey
State Fish Pier is a complex of buildings and docking
berths in the heart of the
inner harbor. You can watch boats unloading & nets being
mended.
THE LOBSTER TRAP TREE
If you visit during the Christmas season be sure to stop
by the Police Station on Main Street. The Lobster Trap tree
is a tradition constructed of lobster traps & bouys.
BLYNMAN CUT BRIDGE
The Cut Bridge was built to allow safe passage for boats
to and from the Annisquam River. It is raised at various
times during the day.
HOWARD BLACKBURN'S TAVERN
Howard Blackburn is a heroic sailor and fisherman whose adventures
are the subject of Joe Garland's "Lone Voyager". His tavern
is still open on Main Street.
OUR LADY OF GOOD VOYAGE
Modeled after a church in the Azores this Roman Catholic
Church was built by Portuguese fisherman. The original statue
is now in Cape Ann Historical Museum.
